If your senior loved one is a reader, it’s time to pick up a few holiday books. Many romance, fiction, and even non-fiction books revolve around the holidays and Christmas. If your senior struggles to read, they do offer large-print books, audiobooks, and sometimes personal care at home, which will also read to a senior. A senior can enjoy holiday reading in many ways even if they can’t see well! This is a good way to fill up a day that’s too cold to go outside or keep a senior hooked on something that is interactive. It is something that a senior will look forward to.
Go to Holiday Events
During December and even January, there are tons of things to do. There may be holiday fairs where churches where your senior loved one can look at crafts and purchase them. Seniors centers may host holiday movie nights, cookie decorating events, and other fun activities to attend. You may notice that your loved one is not going out to do many things but that could be because they feel like they cannot get anywhere. They may want to go to these events but can’t get there.
This is where home care comes in handy. These caregivers can help your loved one by providing transportation and companionship during these events. This can help give your loved one a sense of security, knowing they have a safe way to and from a place and knowing that if there is an emergency, someone there knows them and can help.
Focus On Decorating for Holidays
A senior can do many things at home for the holidays. One of the best things your loved one can do is host a night where they can craft with friends. Set up a hot cocoa bar and paint ornaments with friends. Or get together and start a holiday book club. When your loved one likes crafts, it can also be a way to get the distant family together. There are many ways your loved one can decorate their home and many projects they can do with friends and family to get homemade decorations. Keep in mind that a senior can also create homemade gifts to give to family and friends, which is a great way to fill up an afternoon.
Make a Game Night Date
One of the best ways to spend a cold evening at home is by inviting friends and family to come over to play games. This creates fun memories during the holidays and can be super cozy! Your loved one may enjoy playing card games, doing holiday puzzles, or even just watching a holiday movie together.
